Mr. Cohen previously served as CEO of Cowen Inc. and Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Cohen is a founding principal of the entity that owned Cowen Investment Management (formerly known as Ramius LLC) prior to the combination of Ramius and Cowen Holdings, Inc., or Cowen Holdings, in November 2009.

From November 1992 to May 1994, Mr. Cohen was Vice Chairman and a director of Republic New York Corporation, as well as a member of its Executive Management Committee. Mr. Cohen was also Chairman of Republic’s subsidiary, Republic New York Securities Corporation. Mr. Cohen was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Shearson Lehman Brothers from 1983 to 1990. Over his career, Mr. Cohen has served on a number of corporate, industry and philanthropic boards, including the New York Stock Exchange, The Federal Reserve International Capital Markets Advisory Committee, The Depository Trust Company, The American Express Company, Olivetti SpA, Telecom Italia SpA, and Kroll Inc.

He also served as a Director for U.S defense contractors, Titan International, GRC Inc. and L-3 Communications. He is presently a Trustee of Mount Sinai Medical Center, Vice Chairman and Lead Director of the Board of Directors of Scientific Games Corporation and a director of Safe Auto Insurance.

Over the last thirty years, George Blumenthal has been involved in advanced communications technologies and the financing of medical device and health information technology companies. His broadband expertise and knowledge about communications technology brought his companies substantial success in the cellular phone industry and have now moved him into a cutting edge role in the EMR industry.

He was the founder and Chairman of Cellular Communications Inc. (Ohio and Michigan), Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico and Cellular Communications International (Italy). He was also the founder and Chairman of International CableTel (now Virgin Media); the only cable television company servicing all of the United Kingdom. Virgin Media also had a significant ownership of B2 (Bredbandsbolaget), which built a bi-directional 10 megabit Ethernet system to 200,000 homes in Sweden. Cellular Communications Inc. was acquired by AirTouch Communications in 1996 for $2.5 billion. Cellular Communications of Puerto Rico was acquired by SBC Communications in 1999 for $900 million and Cellular Communications International, Inc. was acquired by Olivetti S.p.A. and Mannesmann AG in December of 1998 for more than $10 billion.

In 1994, he founded TeraMed to develop endoluminally delivered devices for the repair of aortic aneurysms; the Company was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2002. In 2005, George Blumenthal was instrumental in supplying a browser-based registry platform to a leading hospital in New York City to fulfill the data management component of an NIH application that resulted in the hospital being awarded a five-year, $25,000,000 grant for its General Clinical Research Center (GCRC).
